The Man Who Changed My Life

February 28, 2012

I begun to become worldly and started to try new things when I finished studies.  Yes I found pleasure in drinking wine and beer with my friends, going to disco and karaoke bar and seeing movies,  except prohibited drug and cigarette. I still thinking of my health I try them not.

I believe peer acceptance is a great factor in feeling of contentment aside from material aspect.  Although having a circle of friends of mine, I still felt that there is something missing inside of me.  I understand after I was in deep depression.

I grew in a family of catholic. My mother is a devoted one. My father is not so devoted, he went to the church (edifice) not so often.  I barely remember we had family talks or discussion, like the family in the movie I watched is doing.  I go to school, I do my own assignments, I do household chores, everyday, the same over and over again.  Never we talk about what ups and down about me or my siblings. In short my life is so boring, not so exciting. I wonder how the other families are doing, I envy of them sometimes.

When I finished my degree in college, I get a job immediately to support my parents and siblings. Thinking life will be good since I have my diploma, I am wrong.  Life is not that good in my own personal view.  I thought if you work hard with honesty, time will come you will paid satisfactorily. The more I learn the environment, the more I unsatisfied in my life.  The more Why’s generated in my brain and no one can tell why.  For me life is full of sufferings.  People tend to love only those who are rich and famous, and those unfortunate like me, like nobody.  My frustration increase everyday, no one to lean on. I focus o n religious life, and try other affiliation.  But none comforted me.

Until one night due to depression, I stay awake in middle of the night hoping the program in television will make me sleep. Only one is still on and I am not interested.  I always said to myself  I am a religious person and hate debate, hate condemning other religion, because I believe although we differ in religion, we praise and believe only One God.  I do not have choice but to stay tune on that program, Ang Dating Daan (The Old Path)  hosted by Bro. Eli Soriano.  Ear-aching and maddening the first thing I felt, but my curiosity on what he is saying arisen.  The topic he discussed that night is about idols of catholic whom we worship, put candles and pray on.

Second night is differ, for I felt I am longing to hear that preacher again, despite of anger I felt the night I heard him.  Yes, it is true that even I am Catholic fanatic, there’s many question in my heart.  And the feeling of contentment every time I spend my time on catholic edifice (simbahan) is none. When I closely watching Bro. Eli from that night and every night, I feel relieve. My queries and doubts are all answered by him.  I believe on what he said is true and Biblical, but I having this feeling not leave Catholicism yet.

And its been seven years  when I felt this kind of fear one night watching Ang Dating Daan Program.  The fear of death in life after.  He said in loud voice “Kapag nakasumpong ka ng mabuti, huwag ka ng magpatumpik-tumpik, huwag ng magpadelay-delay, kapag naksumpong ka ng mabuti gawin mo na agad….” After that, we look for nearest coordinating center and attend the mass indoctrination.  During that time, the indoctrination is 30 sessions equivalent to 30 nights.  Hindrances flooded but with the help of God,  I finished and got baptized on June 8, 2007,

And for Bro. Eli Soriano, the man who change my life, from nothingness to importance of it, serving thy Lord God with all my heart, the purpose of my life that ever since I asked to myself why I am here.  The first thing I learned in this fold is to give thanks to God in every thing that comes, whether good or bad.  Now, as of my writing, it is my four years and 6 months inside the fold, keeping the grace and peace from God. Hoping that someday, time will come I will see Him, together with the others who are serving Him with all thine heart and soul.

For the meantime, I am also longing to see the man, Bro. Eli, to thank him, hug him as my father on earth, who diligently lead us to Christ.#

The Cross that We Must Carry

February 25, 2012

Bro .Eli Soriano is no doubt sensible preacher of this time, and humorous too in citing examples.

I remember when he cited the “cross” written in the Bible ( he first said that word of God is two-double edge sword, it maybe spiritual or material, or both), but the cross mentioned in the scripture that every Christian must carry is not material.

Way back then, I used to wear crucifix, my father bought me 21 carat gold necklace as birthday present.  I see many fellows who wear the same, different sizes and style, wearing crucifix is a fashion, in my opinion.  The same crucifix I used to touched every time I pray to God, thinking I will be heard by Him through that icon. Although I have insight in spiritual meaning of the cross, I understand not so well.

The example gave by Bro. Eli is funny yet true.  Since Lenten season is fast approaching,  he cited those who carry the literal cross and make themselves crucified afterward on the same cross.  Those people who do not understand Lord Jesus Christ sacrifices, ignorantly humiliated the Lord again and again, year by year. He said Lord Jesus crucified  once and for all to be saved who will believe in him. (John 3:16). Because they believe that when they carry the cross, they feel the forgiveness of their sins. Or I may say they do it for traditional or “panata‘ reason.

If the cross we are going to carry is material, I cant’ imagine myself, carrying a cross going to my working place, going to market, going to schools, just to prove that we  follow Christ.  Because that cross is spiritual cross that every Christians must carry until death.  He read these:

John 13:16  Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.

John 15:18  If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

John 15:19  If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

John 15:20  Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

And Bro. Eli said, its persecution! The cross means persecution that Lord Jesus Christ encountered when he still in the earth, the same persecution Christians will encounter due to Lord’s name sake.

From Maong Pants to Long Skirt

February 25, 2012

I never thought that day will come I will dress long skirt that I hated ever since.  As ordinary girl, my usual attire before is t-shirt and maong pants,  I wear below-knee skirt only in school for its a requirement. When I enter college, I opt to change my green skirt to green pants for I am comfortable on it and no one disagree in our attire. (I do not know why because many  student ahead of me wear pants and not the regular uniform, skirt).

Simply because when you are in jeans, it is easy for me to walk, to run and to ride in a bus, unlike long skirt, it quite difficult.  Aside from the fact I am not a girly-type. I also thought I am a “tomboy” for I disagree on girly outfit.

But when I hear the doctrine about women’s attire in the Bible, taught by Bro. Eli Soriano, I immediately follow without hesitation.  Although uncomfortable at the start, I learn to manage myself on wearing it.  I think it is faith that lead me to carry the Christian dress without hesitation.  Because I heard there are people who continue not the indoctrination session because of wearing long skirt, they like it not.  But to Bro. Eli, if you wanted to be saved in the last day, you must follow even the smallest doctrine of Christ.

Wearing modest apparel is a doctrine of Members of Church of God International.  You can learn more by attending the ADD Mass Indoctrination.

Tax and Tithes: My Own View

February 25, 2012

Everytime I received my salary, I feel unhappy when I saw the figure in deduction side of my payslip, the W/holding Tax!  It almost 12% of my gross pay and it can buy a lot of house needs. I hate tax, that my first impression about it.  But come to think where it goes, ( I am thinking the good side that it goes in infrastructure of bridges, schools, hospitals, salary of government officials, etc) I felt less burden afterward.

So what the Tithes doing on the title? Again, it came to my brain that I am so lucky. I will explain, kindly bear to continue reading. (Thanks) Prior to my entrance to Members Church of God International, I am dumb (you heard it right) dumb in other religious practice and tradition, except catholicsm.  I heard tithing many times, I concerned not, so I  exert no effort to google it or ask about it.  I learned now that most religious organization specially those in abroad treated their members as milking cow.  Asking for the 10% of their income plus more monetary contributions. Organization in the Philippines are no exemption. Different calls they have aside from tithing.

The awful reality is that members of these organizations, having the faith that they doing goodness in sight of God, and hoping someday will enter the kingdom of heaven, they keep on giving tithes to their preachers, ministers , or pastor, unknowingly that tithing is not a commandment to Christians but to Israel. Tithes is their fare to heaven, but the vehicle and driver or the conductor who took their tithes is false.  Poor members, if they only knew that they were misled by their greedy pastors.

So as to Bureau of Internal Revenue, you are much better than those pastors who ask contributions from their members. And to members of these greedy pastors, time to go out, unless you love what their doing to you and play until the end of time as milking cow.

Six sense as they say, its our Instinct! A natural or inherent aptitude mediated by reaction below the conscious level. (Merrian Dictionary)  We use are instinct without knowing it, it just simply rely on it, for whatever reason, we are not so sure.  It is the wife’s instinct if he caught his husband having affair with others. She just feel it yet no material evidence.  It is a mothers’ instinct to know  her children is in trouble or in pain without asking questions.  It is also one’s instinct if a person is telling lies or not to you.  Maybe the body language suggested many times, but still it is our instinct that told us so.

The relation of having instinct to the situation or person we encountered is the capability to distinguish. Distinction of one to another is easily determined if we exercise the power of our six sense.

I having a thought that the power to distinguish using our basic instinct is now moving forward to extinction.  What I see in my surrounding, many people is too lazy to use their instinct especially in choosing religious affiliation.  I believe person had great instinct to choose the best at his maturity age unlike children who just followed what their parents told them. Religious world is just another place to be wiser for our soul is at stake.  Let us use our senses.

Sense of Sight.  Bible is present anywhere, except in place it is forbidden. But in our country, mostly we use and read Christian Bible.  And there you are, you had read them all, the do’s and the dont’s of the commandment.  And your eyes went to Exodus  20: 2 – 7, it says:

Exo 20:3  Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exo 20:4  Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

Exo 20:5  Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Exo 20:6  And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Exo 20:7  Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Sense of Hearing.  And then came a preacher name Bro. Eli Soriano, reading the same verses in the scriptures, you heard it, since you are not deaf or you have any hearing impairment. You heard him sometimes in television, in the radio, in livestreaming in internet, in Bible Exposition and Bible Study.

Sense of smell.  And because of this brave man, fearing nothing but God, reading the words of God from the Scriptures, you now sensing or smelling fishy on your affiliated organization.  Yes you belong in so great organization but the doctrines are man-made and non-Biblical.

Sense of Touch.  Your heart knows it. It is the truth, you believe in God, you believe in what He said is written in the scriptures, you feel every single word is true.  Your heart feels it aren’t you?

Sense of Taste.  You see the greatness and grandness of your organization.  Made of gold and silvers are they, yes very beautiful in the eyes, the edifice is very  enormous, but the doctrine’s taste is displeasing and awful.

Is this another version of the monkey in the display stand: see not, hear not, speak not.  We have option ladies and gentlemen. We have a tool to use to measure the truthfulness of one’s organization.  Use the tool given to us, use the instinct inside of you. I hope it is not yet too late, your senses is still within you and not totally extinct.#
